Location: Weyers Cave Community Center, 682 Weyers Cave Rd, Weyers Cave, VA -- Off I-81 at Mile Marker 235

Hotel: Hampton Inn, Harrisonburg -- $139 a night ($20 less than other similar hotels in the area). Deadline to Reserve for Friday, September 18 and/or Saturday, September 19 is August 28.

About: The theme -- “Dare to Engage” -- is a twist on Star Trek. We will be looking at Lions of the future. What will our organization look like next year, next decade, even in a Star Trek environment? Some highlights planned for the day:

• Canine Companions new hearing service dog program. A client from Northern Virginia will be present to tell her story.
• Charity Warigon Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind Superintendent and members of her staff will be with us to discuss the school’s mission and how Lions are and can be a part of their goal to make their students unstoppable. This partnership has been growing over the past several months and is ready to spread across the state.
• PCC Jean Cook and her team will give us a Listen Up! update and plans for 2027.
• 1VDG Greg will host a Disaster Preparedness Program and we wil join together for a Multi-District Service Project assembling Disaster Preparedness Kits, thanks to an LCIF Grant.
• Town hall with International Director Liz Crooke. Lion Liz is from California, where she managed a 911 Call Center.
• And a few other surprises that I will keep under wraps for now.
