Canine Companions provides highly-trained assistance dogs, free of charge. Founded in 1975, the organization breeds, raises, and trains Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and mixes of the two to help individuals with physical, cognitive, and developmental challenges. These dogs assist with daily tasks such as opening doors, picking up dropped items, and even alerting to important sounds. In addition to service dogs, Canine Companions also trains facility dogs that work alongside professionals in healthcare, education, and law enforcement.
